Grant Application Guidelines for Animal Welfare Organizations

The Howard E. Stark Charitable Foundation is passionate about funding small, passionate, well-run animal welfare organizations.

The organizations we fund generally have:

  • program services in the Northeast region of the US
  • less than $1m assets
  • limited fundraising activities
  • limited government funding

Animal welfare organizations that we fund might be:

  • Humane Societies and Shelters
  • Foster-based Rescue Organizations
  • Wildlife Rehabilitation Services
  • Transport Services
  • Animal Welfare Education Services
  • Medical Emergency Services
  • General Operation Funds
  • In-Kind Donations
  • Match Grant Opportunities

Failure to meet all of the criteria will not automatically result in the denial of a grant application. We take the time to review every application and its supporting documentation to determine if it is right fit for us and the applying tax exempt organization. We do grant funds to a wide array of organizations, but our main focus is on food pantries, community kitchens, animal welfare, and local Massachusetts organizations.
